ABOUT US
I am Nancy Iacono, owner of "Tom Cat Designs" in Narragansett, RI, and have been sewing since the age of 12. When I was 16 I made shirts for my brothers, who wanted to dress like the Beatles. At the age of 20 I started my own custom shirt business for men in Providence, RI. I enjoyed designing creative clothing items while in high school, especially during the bell- bottoms era.
Eventually I got the opportunity to do more creative sewing and worked many years at Hasbro Toy Company as a toy sample maker, doing such designs as Donald Duck's beak pattern, and first-product models of new soft toys.
I currently work in the large sewing studio in my home doing costumes, designing, quilting and other sewing projects for large companies or custom work for individual clients. I have been contracted to make the show drapes (large, international exhibitions for wholesale buyers for 100% cotton quilting fabrics) for MIchael Miller Fabrics, a NY based quilting fabric company, owned by my cousin Michael Steiner and his partner Kathy Miller.
I make the sample baby items for Triboro Quilt Company, also located in NY. These are the design models which eventually get mass- produced overseas and to be sold in stores such as Target, Wal-Mart and other large department outlets.
For several years I have been contracted by Disney on Ice and Reunion Outfitters, often for orders of several hundred costumes.
I recently started finishing quilts for others. I have also made quilt samples for photo shoots (the first model before production) for the Avon Catalogs.
I have also done many costumes for barbershop groups (The Big Apple in NY) and Sweet Adeline choruses.
If you are looking for someone to finish your quilt top, do machine quilting/binding, or any sewing or costume job from one item to hundreds, please contact me and I'll give you a very reasonable price quote. Click here to see pictures of my workshop. This is a non-smoking home and business.
Services Offered: Quilting, quilt finishing, (I have written articles and had my quilt designs published in Quiltworks, Quilting Today, Patchwork Quilting, and Quilt Works), costume making (large or small quantities), custom designing, vests for schools, bands, choral groups, etc. I own a monogram machine for special inscriptions upon request. My high-speed sewing machines also cut and trim the threads, helping to keep my prices low for my customers.
Please phone for quotes. I have a quick turn-around time for quilts and costumes. References gladly given upon request.
